Tim CummiskeyCentral Ohio guitarist and educator Tim Cummiskey performs as both a leader and a sideman throughout the Midwest. His intuitive balance of precision and passion provides strong leadership for solo jazz, classical guitar, and larger ensembles. And as a sideman, his work is prolific. Cummiskey has performed and/or conducted clinics with artists including John Abercrombie, Howard Alden, Carl Allen, Gene Bertoncini, Chris Buzzelli, Benny Golson, Tim Hagas, Ingrid Jensen, Romero Lubambo, Hank Marr, Lee Oskar, Patti Page, Rick Peckham, Bucky Pizzarelli, Debbie Reynolds, Neil Sedaka, Jack Wilkins, Frank Vignola, Russell Watson, The Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Orchestra and others.
In addition to his busy performance schedule, Tim has conducted clinics at the annual convention of the International Association of Jazz Educators, Bowling Green State University, The Ohio State University, Capital University, Denison University and Kenyon College. Tim has 2 recordings on the String Jazz label, Alone Together and Redeeming the Time. Of Alone Together Gene Bertoncini remarked "I love the clarity and articulation of Tim's melodic and harmonic ideas"...Bucky Pizzarelli said of Tim's 2nd CD Redeeming the Time "I have listened to this album from beginning to end, Tim is a plectrum master, he has arrived."
Tim currently serves as a member of the jazz studies faculty of the Ohio State University School of Music and served on the music faculty of Kenyon College for six years. Tim is also a contributing writer to Downbeat Magazine, Jazz Improv and Just Jazz Guitar Magazine.
After studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in the early 90's, Cummiskey received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies from Capital University 1994. Tim's collegiate career was highlighted by numerous academic and performance awards as well as appearances as featured performer at numerous jazz festivals.
