Dr. Chris MelloDr. Mello holds a Doctoral degree in Studio/Jazz Guitar at the University of Southern California, M.M. in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, and a B.M. from the University of Massachusetts. On both Nylon String and Electric guitar his mastery of a multitude of "local guitar dialects" and astoundingly singular artistic sensibilities has rendered him a high profile contributor to numerous recordings. His knowledge and passion for traditional Latin string instruments (Cuban Tres, Cavaquinho, Charango, Requinto) has made him a highly sought-after player in the studio scene. As an educator he currently teaches at a number of Southern California colleges and has been a staff columnist for Just Jazz Guitar Magazine.
An active performer in the L.A. scene, he has performed/recorded with: Giovanni Hidalgo, Norah Jones, Justo Almario, the Dixie Chicks, Juan Carlos Quintero, Bill Cunliffe, Jeff Kashiwa, Paul Schaeffer, Kenny Wheeler, Ernie Watts, Dan Higgins, Bobby Shew, Otmaro Ruiz, Shelly Berg, and a host of others. Additionally, Chris has recorded for Vh-1, Taco Bell, Verizon Wireless, the Latin Grammy Awards, and Disney.
