Johannes Brahms was born into a musical family in Hamburg, Germany, in 1833 and died in 1897. Brahms wrote with amazing technical skill. Among Brahms's works are his four symphonies, smaller orchestral pieces, concertos, chamber music, piano music, many art songs, choral works, and choral-orchestral compositions. His German Requiem was the work said by many to have established his fame.
