Hazel Ketchum is a lutenist, guitarist and singer. Since receiving her Masters of Music degree from the University of Southern California, Hazel has had a lively performing and recording career in a variety of musical styles. As a performer who specializes in early music performance Hazel is a member of the group Sonus. In this group she sings and plays a variety of early instruments, including saz and percussion. Sonus has released three recordings on the Dorian Discovery label and has performed throughout the U.S. and at the Tage Alter Musik Festival in Regensburg Germany. Hazel also performs in the lute duo Rossignol with lutenist/guitarist Christopher Berg, and performs repertoire for solo lute and self-accompanied lute songs. Hazel plays modern and historic guitars, and performs many contemporary works written for her, both for guitar solo and self-accompanied song. In addition to art music Hazel writes songs and has her own group called the Hungry Monks and an Irish/Old Time band named Donnybrook Legacy. Hazel currently lives in Charleston, South Carolina where she teaches and operates Hungry Monk Music with her husband John Holenko.
