Im pleased to announce the winners of the 2005 competition sponsored by Missouri Western State University, Department of Music (Department Head, Dr. Matt Gilmour) in St. Joseph, Missouri, USA. The competition was EXTREMELY severe with competitors that came to St. Joseph from the US, Canada, Bulgaria, Uruguay, Brazil, Germany, Korea, Japan, Taiwan Italy, Costa Rica. The final ranking of the competition was: FIRST PRIZE: Alieksey Vianna (Russia/Brazil) SECOND PRIZE: Marco Sator (Uruguay) THIRD PRIZE: Joseph Williams (USA) I would like to point out that this is the first time that an American has been able to place in the competition (with past finalists including guitarists from Nicaragua, Mongolia and Serbia). A prize list is given below. Were EXTREMELY proud of the tremendous level of guitarists that appeared in this years festival and especially proud of the camaraderie that we have developed through this festival.
