Movie Music by Mel Bay Authors Elias Barreiro Two selections from The Guitar Music of Cuba (MB96178BCD) by Elias Barreiro were used as incidental music in the 2002 MGM film Original Sin starring Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie. Both pieces, "La Celosa" and "Un Recuerdo," were originally written for the piano by Cuban composer Ignacio Cervantes and transcribed and performed on the guitar by Professor Barriero. Original Sin was written for the screen and directed by Michael Cristofer based on the novel Waltz into Darkness by Cornell Woolrich. The original score was composed by Terence Blanchard. While filmed in Mexico, the film's action supposedly takes place in Cuba. Music of Cuban origin was chosen to lend greater authenticity to the drama, and Cervantes and Barreiro serve admirably. Ian Whitcomb Ian Whitcomb's voice, uke, accordion, and his group The Bungalow Boys can be heard on the RCA soundtrack from the Lions Gate Film The Cat's Meow directed by Peter Bogdonavich. Edward Herrmann and Kirsten Dunst star as William Randolph Hurst and actress Marion Davies out on an ill-fated 1924 cruise on the millionaire newspaperman's yacht. Also on board in this historically based portrayal are silent film actor Charlie Chaplain, film pioneer Thomas Ince, gossip columnist Louella Parsons, and British Victorian novelist Elinor Glyn. Their sea voyage was spoiled by a still unexplained murder. In the film, Whitcomb's period music expertise perfectly captures the aura of the '20s. Selections include: "Avalon," "Wild Cat Blues," "Stumbling," "Whispering," "Everybody Loves My Baby," "Hesitation Blues," "How Ya' Gonna Keep 'Em Down On the Farm?," "Ain't We Got Fun," "April Showers," "Charleston," "Breeze," "A Pretty Girl Is Like a Melody," "If You Were the Only Girl in the World," "When I Lost You," "After You've Gone," and "California Here I Come."
