Mel Bay Publications and Solid Air Records Announce Collaboration

Mel Bay Publications is excited to announce a collaboration with Solid Air Records, which has produced many rich and enduring recordings by a number of "state-of-the-art" guitarists. They specialize in "instrumental music, played by real people with their hands and hearts." Mel Bay is happy to be able to offer transcription books of the music of these contemporary artists so that guitarists around the world may study and imitate their music.
Solid Air Records artists are currently working on many wonderful books and book/CD combos to be published in association with Mel Bay Publications. Laurence Juber is working on Laurence Juber: The Anthology, which will feature his most requested tunes...and run over a hundred pages! Doug Smith and David Cullen are also working on "anthologies" which will feature the most requested tunes from their body of work. In addition, all three of these artists are combining to contribute 5 tunes each to a Christmas guitar music book which will draw from each of their holiday recordings.
In a "bluesy" mode, we have 2 Blue 4 Words which will draw from Solid Air's many blues recordings by various artists. Mike Dowling will present a book on his blues style which
not only will place the blues within a "folk" tradition but will also allow for his considerable jazz and swing knowledge to be incorporated to enhance the blues. Kenny Sultan is more of a traditional bluesman, and his book will highlight his original tunes in the styles of the great players like Lightnin Hopkins etc.
Another book in the works is Acoustic Guitar Highlights, which features tunes from many different players. David Cullen is also publishing a book of Bach transcriptions in tablature as well as an epic volume Classical Jazz which will teach jazz players some classical techique and classical players some jazz vocabulary. He has recorded a special companion CD with 37 illustrative cues from the book.
To make things truly international, Japanese star Masa Sumidé will contribute a "Best Of" folio.
All of these books will feature EXACT transcriptions by the artists themselves and will also feature blurbs and tips on each piece by the artists. We are hoping that this will please the customers who are frustrated by the incorrect and incomplete tab/notation folios of the past.
