Written by Ireland's legendary composer, Turlough O'Carolan (in Irish, his name was actually Thorbheallbhach Ui Chearbheallan, pronounced: HOR-val-vah oo HAR-va-lan"), who happened to be blind.
He left behind numerous compositions, characterized by the influence of Irish folk music and his love for the popular and exquisite Baroque music of the times. The Baroque influence may be seen in the harmonic texture and the length of each part of the tune, and the structure of the melody may not be as repetitive as in traditional Irish music.
This piece commemorated his love of a good time. It should be played joyfully.
