Celebrating Christmas is always beautiful and moving; doing so with music is magnificent and profoundly spiritual; and doing so with the guitar becomes an intimate experience full of nuances and sonic surprises that spread the beautiful music of Christmas carols. This book, “Christmas Carols from Spain and Mexico for Classical Guitar Solo,” revives the rich Christmas tradition in both countries, with special emphasis on the revival of Mexican carols, songs of great beauty that deserve to be shared. Here, the guitarist will find the coexistence of two strong traditions fused in a beautiful celebration: Christmas in Mexico, which in many ways converges with Christmas in Latin America. This album presents a program of XII carols adapted for classical guitar under the guidance of the renowned Mexican composer and guitarist, Guillermo Diego, whose musical journey and experience with the instrument span over 50 years. Therefore, the musical performer will find a richly guitar-driven and idiomatic soundscape, not without entirely achievable technical challenges. May this album also serve as a reminder of the essence of Christmas, a time that connects us to Christianity and, likewise, reminds us that times of peace, spirituality, and reflection are always possible in the world.
