This beautiful song is one of Robert Burn’s most well-known poems, set to the traditional air “Low down in the broom.” The one-page but harmonically rich arrangement highlights the dotted rhythms of the melody. The left hand plays octave and 10th chords, along with some parallel harmony lines. The right hand has a few ornaments and melodic octaves in the upper register for part of the last verse. It sounds best played slowly and expressively.
