FRANCO DI BIASE
Franco Di Biase was born in 1951 in Archi (Chieti), Italy, an Abruzzese town in the Sangro Valley. He learned how to play the mandolin and guitar at a young age, playing at many serenades and village celebrations. Franco moved to Milan in 1970 to study engineering at the Polythecnic. It was here that he founded the folk music ensemble "Yu Kung". This band performed throughout Italy and many other European countries with the goal of spreading the knowledge of folk music.
Franco often tours Southern Italy and the Abruzzi region and is an active participant in furthering the heritage of folk music in these areas. Franco also collaborated in Milan with the international folk dance ensemble "Il Paese delle Mille Danze".In 1992 Franco released an album of songs and tunes collected in Abruzzi entitled "Arcaica". Following that he began work for the national center for folk music which was founded and directed by Michele L. Straniero.
Franco continues to perform with mandolin ensembles featuring classical repertoire. He is also frequently called on to record with bands and singer/songwriters such as Franco Madau from Sardinia, Claudio Sambiase from Calabria, Claudio Fucci from Milan, Mario Di Leo from Apulia and Nadia Costantini and Salvatore Lunetto from Rome and Latium.
For over 40 years Franco has organized many shows and other musical events.
