Bob Balsley began teaching at 15 years of age. He studied music theory with S Drummond Wolfe at College of Marin and received a B.A. from The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He taught Jazz Guitar at UW Green Bay for 17 years and currently teaches a Digital Media program a Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College.

He has recorded numerous CD's and performed with artists as varied as Chuck Berry, Randy Brecker, The Green Bay Packer Band and Bobby Vinton. His nationally known Guitar Summer Camp draws students from around the world and is held annually at St. Norbert College.

He has written numerous articles for Guitar Player and Fingerstyle guitar magazines. His first Mel Bay book is the popular "Understanding Guitar Chords" and his newest book "Understanding Guitar Chord Progressions" uses the same approach to a new subject while preserving many of the same themes.
