JOSEPH E ELLIOTT
Joe Elliott is a third-generation clarinet player. His grandfather was an Indiana farmer who played in local bands and his father was principal clarinetist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for 34 years.
Joe has been playing since he was 20 years old. His first teacher was James Wilber in Cincinnati. He graduated from Indiana University where he studied with William Elliott (not related) and Robert McGinnis. While serving with the First Army Band in New York he began lessons with Leon Russianoff and continued studying with him after he left the army. At that time Joe was in graduate school at the Manhattan School of Music.
Joe was formerly the principal clarinetist with the Plainfield Symphony (NJ). At present he plays in the Hanover Wind Symphony and in a clarinet quartet. Joe retired after 28 years in the public schools of Chatham, NJ where he was a band director at all school grade levels. Joe continues to teach privately.
In recent years Joe has been studying guitar and has recorded a CD containing eleven of his original compositions. The recording is entitled "It's Just Me" and can be found on joeelliottjr.bandcamp.com.
