MICHAEL COPPOLA
Michael Coppola began playing the guitar at age 11 with instruction from Richie Lengel, and later studied with Sal Salvador and Frederick Hand. He attended The Boston Conservatory and Hochschule of Musik und darstellende Kunst (University of Music and Performing Arts) in Vienna, Austria.
Coppola performs on "The Hydra," a one-of-a-kind 9-string guitar of his own creation. He has performed at venues such as The Montreal Jazz Festival, the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS) Convention in Nashville, the NAMM Show, and major clubs in New York City such as: The Blue Note, Knickerbocker, and The Iridium, where he was a regular guest of Les Paul.
He has been featured in many guitar magazines such as: Just Jazz Guitar, 20th Century Guitar, Guitar Player, and Fingerstyle Guitar. He is included in jazz critic Scott Yanow's book, The Great Jazz Guitarists: The Ultimate Guide.
