LANCE FRODSHAM
Lance Frodsham is a musician and educator. He lives in the Pacific Northwest and has an M.Ed. from the University of Puget Sound. He has worked as a counselor and teacher in multiple settings, mostly with Alternative High School students.
Lance first heard the mountain dulcimer by listening to Richard Farina records in Malibu Canyon. He was attending a Quaker Youth Camp to hear author Ray Bradbury. He instantly fell in love with the sound of the dulcimer.
Since then, Lance has performed and taught across the country including the Northeast Dulcimer Symposium in the Adirondacks, North Carolina at Boone, Kentucky Music Week, Wisconsin, and multiple festivals on the West Coast, including the Claremont Folk Festival, the Kindred Gathering, Santa Cruz, Menucha, Oregon and many more. Lance has made several recordings since the early 1980's for Kicking Mule Records, Wizmak Records, Mel Bay Publications and independently. He is the author of three books for Mel Bay Publications including: English Country Dances for Mountain Dulcimer, English Ballads for Mountain Dulcimer and English Village Carols for Mountain Dulcimer.
Known for collaborating with musicians from Portland Oregon, Lance has worked with master Irish fiddler Kevin Burke, Sylvia Hackathorn, Dan Compton, Teresa Baker, Robin Banks McCreavy, Andrea Wilde and many others. In the 1990's, Lance was a member of No Seamus, an Irish band who performed regularly at the East Ave Tavern and throughout Oregon.
Lance plays multiple instruments including Appalachian Mountain Dulcimer, Guitar, epinette des Vosge and Piano. He is a proud player of Blue Lion instruments.
