MICHAEL NIGRO
As an international concert artist, Michael Anthony Nigro has performed across the United States and abroad, playing concerts in the Philippines, Argentina, Chile, Greece, France and Bulgaria. He has given concerts and master classes for numerous universities, performing arts centers, church concert series, guitar societies, libraries, and museums.
As a recording artist, his discography includes several CDs and received critical acclaim from The American Record Guide and Classical Guitar Magazine. Mr. Nigro collaborated to record 2 CDs "Between Flute and Guitar" and "As in Dreams...Reflections for Flute and Guitar" which features the premiere recording of a new composition by Jose Luis Merlin.
As a member of Trio Camino, along with David Grimes and Gregory Newton, he has been invited to guitar festivals and chamber music festivals around the globe. After moving to Tucson, he joined forces with Jose Luis Puerta, Alfredo Vasquez and George Ramirez and formed the Tucson Guitar Quartet. Following a sold-out debut performance, they premiered a new quartet piece dedicated to Thomas Patterson written by Sergio Assad. From 2006-2018 Michael was an Assistant Professor of Music at Vanguard University where he established a thorough and comprehensive guitar program.
Presently, Michael teaches at the Academy of Math and Science-Prince in Tucson. Michael holds a Master of Music degree in Guitar Performance from California State University, Fullerton and a Bachelor of Music degree in Guitar Performance from Indiana University, Bloomington. His principal teachers were David Grimes and Ernesto Bitetti.
