JULIAN REES
Teacher and musician, Julian Rees was born in Swansea, Wales and grew up in a musical family. His grandfather, David Glyn Williams, was a pianist and organist in a local Baptist church and regularly provided piano accompaniment for performers at Eisteddfodau, the annual competitive music and poetry festivals held in Wales. Julian's uncle, Keith Williams spent three years conducting under the tutelage of Herbert Von Karajan at the Vienna State Opera. In such a musical environment, it's no wonder that Julian would devote his life to music.
Having studied the piano at an early age, Julian swapped the keyboard for a fretboard and played guitar and bass in bands with his teenage friends and later, as a student at Aberystwyth University where he would also occasionally busk folk tunes in the town centre.
As a teacher with over 25 years' experience, Julian has helped students in composing, recording, and performing their own music. Professionally, he has played mandolin, violin, guitar, or bass guitar in a ceilidh band, and with several cover bands that have performed throughout Northwest England and North Wales.
