ANDY KOSTELAS
Andreas (Andy) Kostelas began his study of the clarinet as a student at Smith Cotton High School in his hometown of Sedalia, Missouri. After participating in numerous high school music activities, Andy toured the Southern United States with the Bud Waples Orchestra. He then joined the armed forces, eventually becoming a member of the 457th Army Air Force Band. Upon discharge he continued his study of the clarinet with Kalman Bloch, Mickey Gillette, and Simeon Bellison as a music student at the University of Southern California. After graduating with a bachelor's degree of music and a California Teaching Credential, Andy toured with the Freddy Martin Band and recorded television commercials with Harry James. Andy then went on to play sax, clarinet and flute as first woodwind player with the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera Orchestra for over 25 years. He has also made many appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Andy has enjoyed recording in the record, television and motion picture industries. Some of the highlights are Frank Sinatra's hit "Strangers in the Night", "The Glen Campbell Show," "The Carol Burnett Show" for CBS and Warner Brothers "The Right Stuff' etc. Working as first woodwind for the past 25 years with Hoyt Curtin, the brilliant composer of all the Hanna-Barbera themes, has been a great joy due to the incredible variety of music recorded and because of Andy's long association with composer Curtin. Besides his continued work with Hanna- Barbera, Andy freelances in all the major films and television studios. Oh, yes, at every opportunity, Andy plays tennis, writes fiction and nonfiction and is always planning another vacation in Greece.
