DANIEL HORN
Daniel Horn was born in McPherson, Kansas, in 1977 and has lived in the Seattle area since 1998. He started his lifelong musical journey at age four with a foundation in classical piano. While still in his formative years, he discovered the joy of being a multi-instrumentalist, taking up the French horn, the pipe organ, and eventually-the Scottish highland bagpipes. His experience with the bagpipes led to an obsession with the folk music of the British Isles and North America. Along the way, he learned to play the tin whistle and Irish Uilleann bagpipes; he picked up his first banjo in 2002. Daniel has performed across genres for countless audiences over the years, from tiny pubs to huge festivals, both on his own and as a part of ensembles. His most prolific collaboration to date was with the Seattle-area Celtic-inspired band, The Fire Inside; starting in 2012, he served as an instrumentalist, singer, arranger, sound technician, and eventually producer for the group's albums, Strike the Match (2014) and Spark (2015). He also produced The Mighty Dreadful, a local Seattle bluegrass band, in their eponymous 2017 debut album. In addition, Daniel provided original soundtrack music for Liam O Mochain's feature film, Lost & Found (2017), and full scores for his short films, The Grocer (2023) and Molly (2025). Meanwhile, Daniel has maintained his love for classical music, continuing to grow as a musician through his work as an accompanist and performance coach for the students in his wife's violin studio. Through it all, the banjo has remained a consistent passion and a source of particular interest as a classical instrument that provides a new way to experience the masterpieces of the past. He is thrilled to be publishing this collection of 5-string banjo transcriptions and arrangements, the result of years of careful study and relentless tinkering.
