DOUGLAS JONES
Doug Jones is a retired professor of music. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Guitar (under a Pressor Foundation Scholarship) from Belmont University (1977) and a Master of Music degree in Classical Guitar from Western Kentucky University (1979). Jones also took postgraduate courses in the music industry at the University of Louisville (1991-92) He studied classical guitar with Jerry Roberts (Belmont), David Kelsey (Western Kentucky University), and was a performer/auditor in classical guitar masterclasses with Manuel Barrueco, Jeffrey Van, Paul O'Dette (lute), Christopher Parkening, Benjamin Verdery, and Eduardo Fernandez. Jones also studied flamenco guitar with Arturo Martinez. Jones served as the company guitarist (flamenco dance repertoire) with Mara Maldonado's Ballet Espanol of Louisville for 15 years. In association with Ballet Espanol, Jones performed for the KET-Television series "In Performance at the Governor's Mansion" for Kentucky governors Paul Patton and Brereton Jones. Other performances with Ballet Espanol included the "World Rhythms" series at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. Jones served as the former president of the Louisville Society for the Classical Guitar and as an orchestra member for Music Theater of Louisville. He also presented several programs for the Louisville Speed Art Museum. Jones founded the classical guitar studio at the University of Louisville School of Music in 1985. In 1990, he became a professor of music at Jefferson Community College (part of the University of Kentucky). Over the following 30 years, he served as chair of the music department (1995-2012), taught courses in music history and guitar, and developed system-level music courses in The History of Rock Music, African American Music History, World Music, and Music Technology. Jones and his wife relocated to the Nashville, Tennessee area, where he enjoys composing music in his home studio and spending time with his 3 grandchildren, Jameson, Abi & Ellis.
