            Born and raised in the USA, Ivan Krillzarin grew up in and  around Philadelphia, PA. Coming from a musical family (his  dad, Harry, played bass and his mom, Ann, ran the family  music store), he got his first set of drums (Slingerland) at age  5. By 13 he was playing drums for a Russian/Ukranian folk  band at various church functions in South Philadelphia. On  the road for several years with local rock n' roll bands, he  then served in the Air Force and played with the 730th  USAF band. He studied drums, composition, and arranging  at Berklee and Julliard Schools of Music and studied  drumset with Dave Levin, Sam Ulano, Paul Patterson, and  Alan Dawson. Also a serious student of hand drums, he  studied Tabla in India with Sri Nageshwar Prasad Misra  (Pandit Pancho Maharaj), bongo and congas with Carlos  Landaeta and Daoud Amin. As a drumset player he worked  with such diverse artists as Bill Haley and the Comets, Gary  U.S. Bonds, Don Cherry, John Tchicai, Sabu Martinez, and  Olatunji among others. A world traveler, he began collecting  rhythms in the 1960s. He currently resides and works in  Hawaii.
