RICHARD METZGER
Richard Metzger is an active musicologist who specializes in the research of sixteenth-century English lute music, its sources, provenance, and dating. Metzger also has a strong interest in Baroque music, particularly in the cross-pollination at the court of Louis XIV of music of the lute, clavecin, and guitar in the formulation of the French style. Metzger is also a guitarist and avid lutenist who is active in the northeastern United States and teaches at the university level. He has published with Mel Bay a modern edition for solo guitar or lute, Chansons of the 16th Century: Franco-Flemish and Parisian Chansons Printed by Pierre Attaingnant. Metzger received his Ph.D. in musicology from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.
