PHUNG TUAN VU
Born in 1958 in Sai Gon, Viet Nam, Phung Tuan Vu began playing the guitar at the age of 8 and writing music at the age of 17. His first appearance on public TV at the age of 13, and his debut concert at the age of 15, in which he played the whole of Bach's cello suite No. 3 and Giuliani's quintet for guitar and string quartet. After decades of performing and teaching guitar in Viet Nam, Vu immigrated to the United States in November 2003, just a month later, he made his US debut concert in Orange County, CA, and continued giving concerts in San Jose and Sacramento CA. He has released one solo CD, and one book/CD: "Melodies of the Far East for Guitar." He has composed more than 30 pieces for guitar, seven of which were published by Mel Bay Publications. His latest compositions include a sonata for solo guitar and a concerto, "From the Far East", for guitar and chamber orchestra.
