NATE OLSON
Nate Olson has been fiddling for 25 years. He was the fiddle instructor at Brigham Young University (BYU) from 2003- 2008 and worked closely with the Folk Music Program there. The program features performing groups that focus on Bluegrass, Appalachian, Early American, and Celtic music styles. His students performed extensively in all parts of the world including the South Pacific, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. Nate has transcribed hundreds of fiddle tunes in many genres including Celtic, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Bluegrass, Old-time, and others, including many contest rounds. A competitive fiddler since his youth, he has won numerous awards and is a recent two-time Utah State Fiddle Champion. He holds a Music Education degree from BYU and a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Michigan. He has toured the world as a fiddler in various ensembles, playing in numerous countries including South Korea, China, Mexico, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, and the United States. Nate is currently working on his doctorate in music and music education at Teachers College, Columbia University. He lives in New York with his wife Morgan and their sons Asher and Sayer.
