LENNY CARLSON
Lenny Carlson has authored numerous books of guitar transcriptions and analysis for Mel Bay and other publishing companies. His most recent books are Jeff Linsky: Latin Guitar Jazz (Mel Bay, 2001), Jack Jezzro: Acoustic Dreams (Mel Bay, 1998) and John Jackson: Don't Let Your Deal Go Down (Arhoolie/Mel Bay, 1998) Artists included in his list of titles include blues pioneers John Lee Hooker, Lonnie Johnson and Willie Dixon, rocker Neil Young, Bahamian folk guitarist Joseph Spence and classical guitarist Stevan Pasero. He has written articles for Acoustic Guitar and Fingerstyle Guitar magazines. An accomplished jazz guitarist, Lenny is also an award-winning composer and arranger who has produced two albums of his original music. A selection from the second album, In the Mud, was nominated for a Grammy as Best Jazz Instrumental Composition. One of his arrangements is featured on Noel Noel, a Christmas, 1996 CD by the Camilli String Quartet on the Sugo label. He designed music and sound effects for video games in the early 1980s and has since composed for videos and films. He is currently arranging and performing as accompanist for jazz/pop vocalist Millicent Wood. Their first CD will be released in late Fall, 2001. Lenny Carlson received a master's degree in Music Performance from Portland State University in Oregon and is on the Music Faculties of City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University's Music/Recording Industry Program. A native of Los Angeles, he now lives in San Francisco with his wife and two daughters.
