SETH AUSTEN
Seth Austen is a virtuoso acoustic fingerstyle guitarist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, playing diverse styles including Appalachian, Celtic, bottleneck, Klezmer, and jazz. Seth has five solo recordings, most recently Metamorphosis and Desert Winds, along with three previous releases on Kicking Mule Records, and is a featured artist on two Shanachie anthologies, The Music of O'Carolan and Silently the Snow Falls. Seth has also produced, engineered, and played on over two dozen recordings by other artists, three of which have won Indie Awards from the National Association of Independent Record Producers (NAIRD). Seth is the author of Bottlenecking Blues & Beyond (97823BCD) and has contributed pieces to other Mel Bay Publications, including Master Anthology of Mandolin Solos, Volume 1 (98372BCD), Master Anthology of Fingerstyle Guitar Solos Volume 1 (98370BCD) and Deluxe Anthology of O'Carolan Music for Fingerstyle Guitar (95266BCD). He is currently working on several other books. Seth has composed music for documentaries and radio programs. In 1981, Seth was a triple winner at The National Flatpicking Championships, Winfield, KS, in fingerstyle guitar, mandolin, and fretted dulcimer. Seth has been on the faculty of the National Guitar Summer Workshop in New Milford, CT since 1984 and has been a guest artist at numerous festivals, concert stages, and seminars throughout the US.
