TANJA MIRIC
Tanja Miric, native of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been playing the guitar for over three decades. She earned a B.M. degree from Mississippi College, an M.M. from Southern Methodist, and a D.M.A. from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Miric has received numerous awards for her guitar playing and academic excellence. She was honored as a Presidential Scholar and recipient of the B. G. Walden Memorial Scholarship and featured in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Among her musical achievements are first place awards from the Mississippi Music Teachers Association, Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs, and Mississippi Guitar Festival competitions. In addition, as a member of Duo Miric she and her twin sister Darka Kooienga won the college duo and overall college division at the University of Texas at Brownsville Ensemble Festival, 2006. Duo Miric was the featured artists in residence for the St. Louis Classical Guitar Society. The duo was also selected to perform at the Guitar Foundation of America Ensemble Showcase in Louisville, (KY), Fort Worth Guitar Festival (TX), and Schubert Club Courtroom Concert series (Saint Paul, MN).
In addition, she is the author of over a dozen books featuring arrangements for solo and guitar duo. Her works are published by Mel Bay Publications, Lathkill Music Publishers (United Kingdom), Classical Guitar Magazine, and Bergmann Edition (Denmark). Dr. Miric is a multiple Mississippi Arts Commission grant recipient.
Currently, Dr. Miric is an adjunct professor at Belhaven University, Jackson, Mississippi, where she teaches guitar-related courses and world music.
