DANNY GOTTLIEB
Danny Gottlieb is one of the most popular drummers in jazz and contemporary music. While best known as the drummer in the original Pat Metheny Group, Danny, during the past 30 years, has performed and recorded with some of the world's greatest musicians. They include Bobby McFerrin, Sting, Chick Corea, Gil Evans Orchestra, Gary Burton, John Mclaughlin, Stan Getz, Jeff Berlin, Pat Metheny, David Byrne, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Gerry Mulligan, Clark Terry, Al Di Meola, The Blues Brothers Band, Booker T and the MG's, Lew Soloff, and many more. He is featured on more than 300 CDs to date, including four Grammy Award Winners. In addition to his career as a performing and recording artist, Danny is also a Tenured Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville (unf.edu). Danny's other Mel Bay releases include 10 educational DVDs, (including three with long-time teacher, the legendary Joe Morello entitled "Natural Drumming"), and "The Drummer's Workbook" also co- authored with Michael Green. Since 2005, Danny and his wife, percussionist Beth Gottlieb, have been members of Gary Sinise's Lt. Dan Band (ltdanband.com), performing 30 -40 concerts per year around the world, 75% of which are benefit concerts for the USO and the US Military. They have performed in Afghanistan, Okinawa, Korea, Germany, the Netherlands, Ft. Hood, Brooks Army Medical Base, Walter Reed Hospital, The Pentagon, 29 Palms, Luke AFB, Camp Pendleton, Great Lakes Naval base, and many more. Danny and Beth also perform as the "Gottlieb Duo", performing concerts and workshops around the world. Appearances have included "Rhythm Sticks" at Festival Hall in London, and workshops in Pescara, Italy, Norway, and Sweden. Danny has been featured on the cover of Modern Drummer, Down Beat, Drums and Percussion, Rhythm, and Drum Scene Magazines.
