Jazz Piano - Improvisation Concepts is the third book in the series Jazz Piano Concepts. This volume was designed for self study and allows the reader to approach jazz improvisation in a didactically meaningful way. The focus of this method is approaching playing according to what you hear. You will gain a lasting success after a very short amount of time by using the two included CDs containing several audio tracks, transcription and repetition exercises. The concept is rounded off with explanations regarding the theoretical background of jazz. This means that a stylistic use of what has been learned is given in practice.
In the four main chapters, the player will learn everything about pentatonic scales, blues, approaches and improvising with chord sequences. The answer booklet included allows the player to take control of their own listening and learning progress. Just like in ‘Solo Concepts’, there are short biographies about jazz artists of the 20th century like William M. ‘Red’ Garland, Teddy Wilson, Nat ‘King’ Cole and Chick Corea. The book is rounded off with an attachment presenting additional techniques like blues licks, jazz rhythm patterns, flexibility exercises and fingering.
